FAQ

Frequently Asked Question

How long will it take you to build my train / Mini-Express?
If we have no trains in inventory (Mini-Express for example), the typical lead-time is 6-8 weeks.

Does Wattman have used trains?
Yes but very rarely. The used road trains we most often sell are trains that we have operated ourselves. They typically have very few hours of operation and look new. If we were a car dealer, we would call them ‘demos’.

Does Wattman offer financing or leasing?
Although we do not, we can direct you to finance companies that have assisted some of our customers in the past.

Can I rent a train for a few days or a few weeks?
Yes, if you are in Québec or Ontario or within a few hours drive from Montreal. Cost of freight to locations beyond this does not make economical sense.

What does the preparation fee cover?  (Shipping)
In order to ensure that the train is secured in the trailer or the container, we build special iron frames and screw them into the floor. We also use strapping and air bags. Before loading, we make sure the train is spotless and use shrink-wrap and other protective materials. As most of our customers are outside of Canada, we prepare the adequate paperwork and communicate with the assigned customs broker in advance to ensure a smooth import process.

Where do you ship?
Wattman ships its Electric Road Trains all over the world.

What is the warranty?
The power train is covered for 90 days and the rest of the train is covered for a full year. The warranty is described on the very first page of the Operations Manual that you will receive with your train.

In what markets does the train operate?
Approximately 70% of our trains operate in malls as Amusement Train for Shopping Centers. We also sell to amusement parks, zoos, family centers, museums, Special Event and promotional companies.

Are there any import, special duties or taxes?
Not in the US (NAFTA). Outside the US, there may be applicable duties and taxes. Because Wattman ships to a large number of countries and since regulations change, the answer to this question is the responsibility of the customer. The international export product code for the locomotive is: 8701.90 (approx. 40% of value of a complete train; the code for the wagons is: 8716.80 (60% of the value…).

I’m going to operate a train indoors; can I have a smoke machine?
Yes. The smoke machine is odor and pollution free. The liquid that produces the smoke is glycol based. (perfect for Mall Train Rides)

What are the standard colors?
For the locomotive and coal car, our production rotation usually provides for 3 standard color schemes: (Red/Yellow - Black/Red - Yellow/Red). The caboose is always red. The two middle wagons are green, blue or yellow.

Can I have different colors?
Yes, we also build custom trains.

What kind of insurance should I look for?
Each customer’s situation is unique. Customers of multiple trains and rides will have insurance coverage for their fleet. Owners of a single train should look into the coverage based on the type of environment they will be operating in and the obligations that may be tied in to their contract. Insurance Coverage incorporates so many variables that Wattman cannot recommend anything other than looking into this prior to purchasing the train.

What materials are used for the wagons?
The body of the wagons is made of hardwood plywood from Russia. The locomotive incorporates sheet metal as well as wood.

How long will the train run between charges?
15-20 hours - depending on the type of terrain and usage.
